Football goal statistics

Best football goal stats website for match analysis

The best football goal stats website for your analysis should separate goals scored, goals conceded and total match goals. A useful comparison also shows over/under frequencies, both teams to score and first-half records, with a clearly defined home or away sample.

What a football goal stats website should include

Compare goals for, goals against, match totals and the individual scores behind each number. Averages need a valid match count, a competition and a venue definition. Full-time and first-half results should be separate: one is not a scaled version of the other. A confirmed 0-0 is valid data; an unknown result is not a goalless draw.

A worked example: averages, over 2.5 and BTTS

Consider five fictional results written from the analysed team's perspective: 2-0, 1-1, 0-1, 3-2 and 0-0. The team scores six goals and concedes four. Across five matches, that means 1.20 goals for, 0.80 against and 2.00 total match goals per game.

Only the 3-2 exceeds 2.5 goals: 1/5, or 20%. Both teams score in the 1-1 and 3-2: 2/5, or 40%. These are different questions, and neither rate follows from the average alone. Goal difference is another measure again: it subtracts goals against from goals for rather than adding both sides.

First-half goal statistics need actual half-time scores

A 2-0 final score does not tell you whether either goal arrived before half-time. Never divide full-time goals by two to create first-half records. When a feed has complete final scores but missing half-time scores, the first-half denominator must be smaller. Compare periods using their own valid samples and retain genuine zero-goal halves.

Start with league tables, then compare venue

The public Premier League goal statistics and LaLiga goal statistics let you check season records, available match counts and venue splits. Season tables and the last ten matches provide different views, so state which one supports your conclusion.

For an upcoming fixture, compare the home team's home matches with the away team's away matches. Keep their direct meetings in a separate H2H sample. Inspect opponents, dates and unusually large scores rather than treating every sequence as equally representative.

Why high averages do not guarantee goals

One unusually large result can raise an average without making high totals common. Managerial changes, opponents and venue can alter the context too. A 100% historical rate over three games is only three observations, not certainty about the next fixture. This guide explains how to inspect evidence; it does not supply guaranteed score predictions or returns.
